American Theory, was painted live on January 8, 2017 at the Tacoma Art Museum's Free Community Festival for the 30 Americans Fine Arts Exhibit sponsored by the Rubell Family Foundation.

There were approximately 45 fine art paintings, sculptures, installations and video presentations included in this exhibit, each art piece created by a famous Black African American Visual Artists, on display for first time on the West Coast.

I was truly honored and blessed to have one of my collage assemblage paintings showcased for the last week of this celebrated African American Fine Arts Legacy. Words cannot fully explain the powerful historical relevance of the 30 Americans Fine Arts Exhibit.

The opportunity to see exquisite original artwork made by Kara Walker, Kerry James Marshall and Kehinde Wiley was more than worth the 45 minutes ride from Seattle.
It was if I had reconnected with the spirit of creativity from our enslaved African ancestors as I walked through the museum and witnessed the creative energy in the building.

'American Theory' is also the first painting I have made this year in remembrance to the universal significance of the African Diaspora, as we honor Black African American History in the United States.

My Journey into the Wonderful World of Fine Arts in Seattle 2014 - 2020!

It has been almost three years since I started my first Fine Arts Theory Designer Series from Shurvon Shaynlicia Fashion and Fine Arts Designs. Although, I didn't really have a set plan on how this year long fine arts exhibit would be or what type of paintings I would make..the plan was to just get started and follow the lead of my artistic creative vision.

Since its first debut in January 2014 there were many different feelings, thoughts, ideas and realizations that I've experienced while on this new visual arts journey. I knew at a very young age that I would one day become a "real artists," the process of actually making, creating, thinking and showcasing my original art peace's has been very surreal.

Especially, when I discovered all of the  "I really don't know how to explain it ?¿" additional stuff that is associated with the "art world."

There were many times when I was amazed, shocked, scared, excited and inspired to continue on my journey as a Black African-American female visual artists. I now make sure to identify myself in this way so that everyone is clear about who is the only founder, artists and creative art director of Shurvon Shaynlicia Fashion and Fine Arts Designs.

This is not for unnecessary attention purposes because that can always fluctuate. It is because I feel it is very important for an artists in any category of the Fine Arts to be recognized for their accomplishments regardless of their looks or current social economic status.

As a person I truly enjoy painting, reading and admiring the work of other visual artists. Most people seemed surprised by this fact, as if I just woke-up yesterday and decided to discover fine arts. I will admit that drawing and painting wasn't something that I did consistently but the gift, talent and ability was always in me, marinating in the universe until its season to come forth.

This new millennium has definitely been the most creative, innovative, musical, poetic, confident and health conscious.  Which means the future generations will be spectacular because that is what God already predestined in the scriptures of the Holy Bible that says "...we should prosper and be in good health even as our souls prosper." That includes BLACK people whom have often been made to feel inferior or ashamed of their African heritage...but THAT IS NOT WHAT GOD SAID IN HIS WORD ABOUT THE PEOPLE HE CREATED, HE SAID THAT WE HAVE A DESTINY WITH A FUTURE AND HOPE.

After observing some of the issues in our society it only made sense for me to start painting and writing, to help make this world a better place with my creative artists skills. Therefore my goal is not just about fame and fortune. It is about utilizing the God given talents that I currently have to encourage life, love and thankfulness that's my purpose and that's my plan.

The My heART's DESIGNER SERIES ~ 2015!

My personal journey into the Wonderful World of Fine Arts has been all that and more, since I made the decision to be a "REAL" Artists = painting, drawing, coloring and writing about the creative adventures of being an African-American Female Fine Arts Visionary!

Starting the painting process, Stopping and Starting again...I have always been very artsy, but was I really ready to present my very own pictures in galleries, museums and art exhibits?
">+?-¿<=#ireallydon'tknow¡!,."
Although, it sounds like a good idea and it is what most professional visual artists do at some point in their Fine Arts Career, the struggle to make this decision was very real, especially since I wanted to keep almost every picture that I made for myself (and I do) sometimes.

It is also very fun and FABULOUS to be a visual artists in different community art shows with other FABULOUS visual artists. But as I climbed to the top of Mount Art World and started marching around I realized there were so many twist and turns that caused me to stumble down. It was only by FAITH that I was able to hold onto my vision, goals and royal crayons.

My Fine Arts Journey started in Seattle, Washington, the place where I was born and raised. My eyes have seen the Seattle Waterfront, colorful flowers and evergreen trees that are in abundance everywhere I go. My heart moves to the creative spiritual sunrise and sunset of living in the Pacific Northwest. My mind completely understands the sun, moon, stars, wind and raindrop weather that will change several times between night and day.

The Seattle Central District~Africatown, is were I am from and the firm foundation of my everlasting Fine Arts Visionary Empire. That was BUILT with the love, pain and heartache of a true survivor who has traveled the land only to discover that no other place in the whole entire universe, will be able to replace my life in Seattle...This is where my heART has a HOME,  always and FOREVER!!!

Now, excuse me while I adjust my crown and continue my journey through this creative place...ready to PAINT with my BRUSH on this PAPER... my heART's Designer Series, a surrealist image of the 25 REASONS why i LOVE BEING IN THIS RACE!

"my heART's 25 = Paint + Brush + Paper"

This is the original drawing of the
'25 Reasons I LOVE ART!'

The original was drawn on a brown tinged (non gesso) canvas cloth, similar to the newsprint paper that was used in my elementary school art projects. This image will be reprinted on watercolor paper and painted with crayola watercolor paint using the Oh-So FABULOUS Chinese Calligraphy paint brushes it will also include a border made of crayons, markers and gouache paint to add color to this very detailed description of the

THE HISTORY OF SHURVON SHAYNLICIA FASHION AND FINE ARTS DESIGNS

There are so many artists in the world that have inspired my love of being a visual artists. Here is my list of the Artists that have influenced my life and art peaces.

1. Picasso: I can relate to his need to create and experiment with different art styles and techniques.

2. Frida Khalo: We both have experienced the pain of having intensive orthopaedic surgeries (I have scoliosis), although her injuries were more serious. I know what it is like to wear a body cast and back brace with limited mobility. I admire the way she chose to paint and document her life with creative details in the midst of her disabilities. I consider my own paintings as a visual autobiographical mystery novel on canvas. With each chapter (art peace) connecting to another to create an ongoing creative life long adventure in the art universe.

3. Annie Lee: She is a very successful visual artists whose artwork captures the everyday lifestyle of black people living in America. Her art is colorful, poetic, musical and real. One of the first world renowned artists limited edition prints to have in my personal art collection.

4. Larry Poncho Brown and David Sketch Butler: These two contemporary African-American men are very talented visual artists who have taken the necessary time to teach others how to reach their creative goals. I'm very grateful for the knowledge they present on their social media websites.

5. Synthia St. James: She really helped paved the way for contemporary black female artists to become more visible in the commercial art business. Her art is a perfect combination of a art-deco style with afrocentric themes. I love seeing her art on book covers and media advertisements.

6. NEW YORK-NEW YORK!!!
Growing up in Seattle, Washington, I heard so much about this place called New York on television (FAME) and in music videos but it wasn't until I received my first rap/hip-hop album "The Sugar Hill Gang's Rappers Delight" inside that sky blue and rainbow ribbon design on the front album cover that I heard the sound of NEW YORK! I would play that record over and over again on my little blue and white stripped suitcase record player.

That classic rap song was my intro AND then came what I consider to be the best hip-hop break dancing movie of all time 'BEAT STREET,' I spent many summer days watching that movie along with Krush Groove and Breaking 1 & 2  with the Electric Boogie Lou! These movies were my first impression of NEW YORK LIFE (Singing, dancing, rapping, subways, cold winters, night life and colorful clothing)... My creative art journey vision had just got real, real!

7. WRITERS, POETS and SINGERS: I can see, hear and feel the words you have written from your soul onto paper or sung through your microphone. Sometimes it is just a word, phrase or the whole song that I paint on my canvas because I understood or seek to understand...

8. Artists from or currently living in Seattle, WA:
The artists from my birthplace and hometown were the first to teach me to see art in its many different forms. Before I was old enough to remember any of their names I seen their art in my community.
The most memorable being the murals on the old Randolph Carter Center, Medgar Evers Swimming Pool and the Seattle Urban League Buildings  that were a few blocks from my home in the Central District of Africatown.

Some of my family members are also visual artists and I've always thought drawing and painting was something all people knew or learned how to do like walking and talking. I was surprised when I discovered that this wasn't true but I truly believe that EVERYBODY has some level of creative ability to either sing, draw, paint, dance, sew, act or "something" they just have to find it within themselves and Just Do It.

My own art making process got started a little slow but its definitely on the move now that l have my creative groove!
Growing up in the Central District neighborhood of Seattle, WA was and is a blessing to me everyday.

I loved walking home from school or to my favorite stores, churches and beauty shops. Riding the "Joe" Metro Bus (public transportation) from one place to the other was one of the best ways to get around as a teenager living in the city. Now, that my old neighborhood has been gentrified, I am very thankful to have had my real "living" experiences in a place that was and is where my heART has a home!

Go on YouTube and look at Seattle based rapper Draze's music video "The Hood Ain't The Same" for a virtual tour of my city (Seattle, WA).

The Central District will forever and always be the place to be~CD4EVER!!!

The creative art process of Shurvon Haynes and Julius Brandon is all about working together to create a remarkable piece of artwork. Julius typically has the general idea while Shurvon brings this concept to life with her talented drawing skills. They both have a love for vintage fashion designer styles which makes their collaborative efforts worth its ECCENTRICITY!

Original Black African American Art by: Keith 1980 - 1990's

Black African-American Fine Arts
Originals by Airbrush Artist
Keith Haynes

1980 - 1990's

This is a video of the first images of professional Black Fine Arts I had ever seen. I grew up studying these paintings made with great artistic detail by my Uncle Keith.
He is an airbrush artists extraordinaire.

He also completed a very important art installation for Sound Transit, read this quote from the Seattle Times Newspaper for more information:

Soon to be installed, Augusta Asberry’s “Come Dance With Me,” a group of stylized cutout steel figures of joyously dancing African women, looks toward the traditions of her ancestors. Sadly, the Bremerton artist died last year of breast cancer at age 75 before her piece was completed. Seattle artist Keith Haynes is finishing the painting on the sculptures, which are slated for installation this summer on the South Plaza at the Othello Station.
In a statement for her Women Painters of Washington biography, Asberry said about her work: “Designs, color and motion are the elements that dance around in my head and become the heart of my work. My off-balanced arrangement of these elements without a focal point is like ‘offbeat phrasing in jazz music.’ I invite the viewer to linger awhile and ‘listen for the beat that is never sounded.’ “

FEBRUARY 2020 - OCTOBER 2020
'2020 IN THE PRESENCE OF BLACK ART'

'2020 IN THE PRESENCE OF BLACK ART'

Being in the presence of Black Art is a magical, spiritual and historical experience. Black Art is a visual interpretation of the African Diaspora Legacy as told by the creative people who are the descendants of our enslaved African Ancestors
We speak their names and their spirit lives through our soul as we 'Lift Our Voices' to sing, dance, paint and write about our place in this world. We are the change we have been waiting for, we are the creative visionary's that dazzle the Global Universe allowing others to see the Power of Black Art.

The "2020 In The Presence of Black Art" exhibit is inspired by the natural creativity of our African ancestors, Resourceful Black Americans, the Harlem Renaissance, Afrocentricism, the Civil Rights Movement and our current Millennial Wakanda Reality.

This exhibit will encourage us to learn resilience from the past, optimism to live in the present and preparation for the future of our "back2BLACK" African American Community. It is an opportunity to GIVE BACK to the Soul of Blackness that birthed me into a Fine Arts Visionary.

"As a Black African American visual artists there are many different types of obstacles to conquer while living our best life. We have to continuously rebuild our strength and stand firm in our faith everyday in an effort to believe in our creative vision. Therefore it is very important for us to uplift and encourage each other as artists because we BeDazzle the Whole Fine Arts World!!!" ~Shurvon Shaynlicia, The Fine Arts Visionary
